Rockstar creates full CGI film for Autodesk

Eugene Riecansky presents at 2016 Siggraph.

Eugene Riecansky presents at 2016 Siggraph.

Our sister company Rockstar Films has delivered another in its series of films for Autodesk, a global leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software.

Autodesk approached Rockstar to create a film that would highlight and showcase the software products used within it’s Maya 2017 software.

Autodesk gave film director, Rockstar’s Eugene Riecansky, an open brief and total free rein over the style, content and approach to conceive a full CGI short film using Maya.

Eugene said: “We came up with a crazy-ass rock ’n’ roll super computer that awakes the monster beneath. We called it ‘KNGDM’.

“The machine shows how the new Maya motion graphics toolkit can be used to control and effect animation via audio and randomness. No keyframes in the machine, just pure MASH. The film was rendered using Autodesk’s Arnold.”

Eugene was also asked to attend Siggraph’s 43rd international conference on Computer Graphics & Interactive Techniques held in California this summer. Here he joined Laurence Cymet, Autodesk’s product manager for Maya, to present on Maya and show KNGDM.

This presentation film has had more than 10,000 views on YouTube.

Supporting RSPB’s Scottish Big Nature Festival

It’s no surprise that when the sun shines the number of us getting out and about in the great outdoors dramatically increases – a past time that our Brand Experience colleagues’ client, the RSPB, wholeheartedly encourages.

From workshops and guided walks to fun days and festivals, the RSPB leads the way and we continue to support them by producing the latest in branded leaflets, brochures, interpretation and signage.

Most recently we produced all of the materials required for the Scottish Big Nature Festival held in East Lothian. We had the challenge of creating a sub-brand for the event that engaged with two audiences simultaneously – families and nature enthusiasts.

Once approved, this was rolled out across a variety of advertising streams, promotional leaflets, location maps and event signage, timetable and programme.

The festival was a great success and we hope that we will have the opportunity to work on this fantastic event again next year.

Team effort for Report and Accounts season

The annual financial reporting season is always a hectic time for many companies and it was no different for us here at Brandex.

“It was a busy and demanding time for us, designing, producing and managing the print for three Report & Accounts for our clients, Tokio Marine Kiln Group, CLS Group and International General Insurance,” said Judith Cousins, Client Services Director.

“The largest and most complex of these was for Tokio Marine Kiln Group, which ran to 155 pages.

“Although the projects are extremely time-pressured, the whole Brandex team comes together to deliver word-perfect documents on time.

“These projects always involve a number of colleagues across the agency as we bring together design, artwork, production, proof reading and print buying to deliver the finished reports to set deadlines,” said Judith.

“For some R&A projects we use Adobe’s InCopy solution. Tokio Marine Kiln’s financial team continues to use InCopy over a Brand Experience VPN network and over the years have become adept users.

“They take charge of the the updating of the financial statements to such an extent that once we have set up the report they only call upon us towards the end of the process to support them with more technical tasks and finalising the document.

“This helps streamline the process.”

Brandex is currently working on Report & Accounts for two further clients which have a later publication date.

You can view pdf copies of the three completed printed Reports and Accounts here:

Vickie joins the web development team

We are pleased to announce the arrival of a new website developer to the Brandex team.

Vickie Allen has joined Brandex after spending the last three years with Norwich-based Liftshare.

After leaving Wymondham College, Vickie started her career with Aviva as a trainee Oracle developer before joining Liftshare in 2013.

Outside her day-to-day work Vickie organises SyncDevelopHER, a group which wants to explore the gender divide in the IT industry.

In 2015 she founded the DevelopHER Awards, now an annual awards ceremony which recognises women who work in the technology sector in East Anglia. In 2015 the awards evening in Norwich attracted more than 150 attendees, having had over 130 nominations across 11 categories. This year the awards are being held in Ipswich on the 30 November.

As part of SyncDevelopHER, Vickie has also set up DevelopHER Code Club which is running Saturday morning sessions to provide a safe environment for students, between 12 and 18, to meet up and code.

Vickie is also a member of and regularly attends Norfolk Developers and SyncNorwich and since 2013 has also helped to organise Norfolk’s annual development conference – NorDevCon – each year.

You can follow Vickie on Twitter and also SyncDevelopHER.

Outside work Vickie is ‘practically fluent in Spanish.’ “I absolutely love speaking Spanish, the Spanish culture and Spain itself,” said Vickie.

She added: “I’m very excited to start the next step of my career at Brandex, and look forward to working with the team and gaining loads of new experience as well as bringing some new ideas with me – and of course – lots of cat pictures. ”

Chris Donaldson, Brandex creative and digital director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Vickie to the team. We are confident she will be a great addition to our team as we continue to provide our clients with more and more digital work.”

New brand and website for Saffron Insurance

We are thrilled to have developed a new brand and website for leading independent East Anglian broker Saffron Insurance.

Saffron Insurance has been a Brandex client for more than 8 years, in fact we developed the broker’s previous brand and web presence.

Saffron managing director David Beswick said: “Saffron has changed a lot over the past 60 years and that change continues with our new logo and identity.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve changed our look and it probably won’t be the last but we think the updated logo and website is a fitting reflection of all the ways Saffron Insurance works for our customers across personal, business, life and protection insurance and through to how we handle claims.”

Saffron now has 10 branches across East Anglia, including two offices in Norfolk and more than 100 staff.

We developed the new website to be viewable across all devices and it is fully content managed to allow Saffron staff to manage the whole site themselves
